Lieu de naissance : Halifax, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Lieu de décès : SYDNEY, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
We regret to announce the passing of Evelyn Gillis, 65, of Sydney, on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at St. Vincent’s Nursing Home in Halifax.
Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of Allan and Annie Bell (MacDougall) Gillis of Sydney River.
She was a member of St. Anthony Daniel Church, Sydney, where she belonged to the CWL and sang in the choir.
She worked for many years in the Boston area in the clerical field and as a personal care worker before returning home to Cape Breton to care for her mother Annie Bell.
She was the last remaining member of her immediate family, as she was predeceased by her parents and her sister Ann.
She will be sadly missed by her many friends and family, especially her friend Beattress Mullins of St. Vincent’s Nursing Home.
Evelyn was a kind and compassionate person who provided caring and comfort to the people she cared for while working, and also in her life. She had a lifelong passion for music and for singing in the church choir.
Evelyn’s family would like to thank the staff of St. Vincent’s Nursing Home, and the MacGillivray Guest home for their kindness and care over the last few years.
A service for Evelyn will be held Saturday, May 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Daniel Church in Sydney.
In memoriam, donations made be made to a charity of choice.
