The “Captain’s” boat sailed for the last time. He has gone to be with our mother Marcella, his wife of 57 years.
He was born to Flora Mae Wilkie in Sugar Loaf on June 16, 1927 and he passed away on May 7, 2012 at Buchanan Memorial Hospital. He was raised in Black Point by Archie P. and Christy MacKinnon.
Left to mourn dad’s passing are his 14 children, Peter (Carm); John (Barb); Christy; Joe (Jessie); Theresa; Margaret; Stanley (Patsy); Florence (Wilfred); Helen (Phillip); David; Blair (Debbie); Hughie; Wilma (Carl); Marie (Frank); daughter-in-law, Anna; 33 grandchildren; 36 great-grand children; sisters, Catherine, Ellen, Tina, Freda; brothers, Jimmy Lloyd and Ernie.
Dad was predeceased by his wife, Marcella; Archie and Christy MacKinnon; sons, Paul; Simon (in infancy); grandsons, Robbie MacLellan, Joey Buchanan, Dougie MacLellan; son-in-laws Percy Fraser; Robert MacLellan; sisters, Grace, Viola; brothers, Stanley and John Neilly.
Dad loved to work and he worked hard to raise his family of 15. He was a fisherman all his life; he worked many years as a mailman as well as driving the snow plow into Meat Cove. Dad also served for a number of years as a Victoria County Councilor. In the last few years dad loved to play cards. He loved cribbage and getting out and seeing his friends, dad got great joy winning, especially when he played with his friends in Ingonish.
As per dad’s request he has been cremated. All are welcome to come by to remember dad at the family home in Bay St. Lawrence after 2 p.m. on Wednesday. There will be a graveside service on Thursday, May 10 at St. Andrews United Church Cemetery in Bay St Lawrence at 1 p.m. Dad will be missed by his large extended family.
Family flowers only please. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at Buchanan Memorial Hospital.
