December 11, 1906 - May 9, 2012. “Safe in the arms of Jesus.” Passed peacefully away at the Bonavista Healthcare Complex surrounded by his loving family, John Russell of Bonavista, also known as Captain Jack to many. Predeceased by his wife of 72 years Gwendolyn (Brown) in 2009 and son William (Bill) in 1996. Left to celebrate his amazing life with precious memories are sons Everett (Alice), Horace (Enid), John Jr. (Minnie) and daughters Jennie Joy (John) and Sheila Porter (Lloyd), daughter-in-law Edith, 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, and very special friends Fred Cuff, Harry Faulkner and Darrell Duke, a special caregiver Kelly Alexander, as well as many other relatives and friends too numerous to mention. Resting at Strathie’s Funeral Home in Bonavista. Funeral service to take place on Sunday, May 13 at 2:00 p.m. from Christ Church in Bonavista with cremation to follow. Inurnment will follow at a later date.
