Phyllis Alberta “Bert” Keddy - 88, of Berwick, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, Thursday, May 10, 2012 in Soldier’s Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Weston, Kings County, she was the daughter of the late William John and Annie Sophia (Nixon) Nixon. Alberta was a homemaker, enjoyed cooking and had been employed at Camp Aldershot as well as Evelyn’s Bake Shop for a number of years. She had a great love for music, singing in the church choir and was well known for her wit and poetry. She was an avid card player and frequented many card parties. She had been very active in the Millville Women’s Institute. Alberta enjoyed square dancing with her late husband, Kenneth and was involved with several square dancing groups. She was also a strong supporter of the Progressive Conservative Party and supported the Apple Blossom Festival within the Aylesford area. She is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Ann (Arnold) Dempsey, Nicholsville; one son, Constable Kenneth Wade Keddy, Bridgewater; four grandchildren, E. Todd (Lynn), Berwick; Jeffrey (Michelle), Port Williams; Adam (Tiffany), Bridgewater; Erica (Kerry), Toronto; six great grandchildren, Braden, Logan, Hannah, Justin, Olivia and Payton; nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth; daughter, Shirley Louise, in infancy; sisters, Evelyn Ackles, Estella Parks and Margaret Nixon; brothers, Edward and Elwood Nixon; her companion of recent years, Arthur Theodore Saunders. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, May 13, 2012 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2012 in the Morristown Baptist Church, Reverend John Beers officiating. Burial will take place in the Morristown Cemetery. A reception will follow in the church vestry. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
