It is with sad and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Boudreau, Warden of Richmond County.
John died peacefully May 16, 2012, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Petit de Grat, he was a son of the late Willie and Cecilia (Landry) Boudreau.
He was a teacher and guidance counsellor for over 30 years, after which he became Councillor and Warden for Richmond County.
He was an avid fisherman and his greatest joys in life were his family and his community.
In 2002, he became one of the first recipients of the Order of Nova Scotia and was also awarded the Golden Jubilee Medal of Queen Elizabeth II the same year.
He touched many lives and leaves behind a legacy of selfless contributions and passionate commitment.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Viola (Samson); his children, Michael (Tyna Hope) and Michelle (Christopher Newell); his grandchildren, Nicholas and Aurélia; his sister, Cornelia (Johnny Perry) and his brothers, Bernard (Diane), Adrian (Eleanor) and Lucien (Diane).
Visitation will be today from 2-9 p.m. in IML Funeral Home, Petit de Grat. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, May 19 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Petit de Grat. A celebration of John’s life will be held in the Centre La Picasse in Petit de Grat following the service. Private burial to follow at a later date.
Donations in John’s memory can be made to Canadian Cancer Society, the Lodge that Gives, Halifax, or Strait Richmond Hospital, palliative care unit.
