William (Bill) Petruic
On June 12, 2012 William (Bill) Petruic found eternal peace. He journeyed on to be with his beloved wife Elsie, sisters Helen, Alice, and Mary, brothers George, Theodore, Pete, Nick, Dan, Elmer, Anton, and Elie, mother Revecca, father Niconar, and son-in-law George Cozac. He will be dearly missed by daughters Rhoda (Ron) Mayer of Kelliher, Bev of Calgary, Ev (Doug) Sillers of Avonlea; grandchildren: Allan, Rhonda, Gerald, and Heidi Mayer; Christy, Tammy, Rob, and Andrew Sillers; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Bill married the love of his life, Elsie Boehme on November 7, 1944. They raised their 3 daughters on the farm in the Avonlea district. Bill was a hard-working man and successful farmer who knew the value of women’s lib with his daughters working at his side pitching bales and driving tractor. He was an active supporter of the CCF/NDP Party, Wheat Pool, Co-op, and United Farmer’s Union. Church was central to his life and working on a Sunday was forbidden. A self-educated man who only went to Grade 8, he was an avid reader and with a book or manual in his hands, could figure out nearly anything. Almost to his last day he enjoyed reading western novels and also did word searches and loved watching Blue Jay ball games. Bill enjoyed retired life in Avonlea with time to join the Lions Club, Masons, the Men’s Curling Club, the United Church Choir, and sip coffee and play cards at the Drop-In Centre. He was proud of his daughters and grandchildren and enjoyed being a part of many family activities. He will be sadly missed by many. Please join the family to celebrate Bill’s life at the Avonlea United Church on Saturday June 16, 2012 at 10:30 am. Reverend Marilyn Keerak will officiate. Interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations may be made to the Coteau Range Manor, Avonlea. Thank you to the staff at Coteau Range Manor who gave Dad such wonderful care over the past 7 ½ years. In living memory of Bill, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Please sign the memorial register book at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries).
