PICTOU – Mina Elizabeth (nee MacKenzie) Paterson, formerly of Church Street, Pictou, passed away peacefully at the Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou, June 10, 2012 in her 96th year.
She was born December 16, 1916, the youngest of 14 and last surviving child of Simon and Elizabeth MacKenzie, of Waterside, Pictou County.
She was predeceased by her husband, George (1949) and leaves son, George (Cynthia), and much beloved grandson, Kirk.
Before and since retiring from the N.S. Department of Agriculture in 1982, Mina pursued her great interest in genealogy and produced family trees of the MacKenzies, Falconers and Murrays. She volunteered her secretarial and administrative skills at the Pictou County-North Colchester Exhibition, 4H, the Pictou Heatherbell Girls Pipe Band, the Mackenzie Clan of Nova Scotia and helped as needed at the Shiretown Nursing Home. She also took great pride in completing the H&R Block Income Tax study at home program and helping others file their Income Tax Returns. Throughout her life, she enjoyed people, especially children; animals, and in earlier days, trips, quiet walks in the woods or by the sea, knitting, baking, reading, cross-word puzzles and bowling. Mina was an avid sports fan who especially loved watching hockey and curling on TV. She was particularly pleased to have been able to drive into her 80's and have her driver's license renewed at age 85. Her compassion, frankness and keen sense of humour will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Sunday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou, from where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, with Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity officiating. Burial will follow in Haliburton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Canadian Hearing Society, the Canadian Institute for the Blind or a charity of your choice.
