SWAN (Geldart), Lillian Delena – 77, Truro. Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away Thursday morning, June 14, 2012, at Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, after bravely enduring a brief battle with cancer. Delena was married to Basil Anderson Swan for 58 years. (Deceased June 2011) She will forever be missed by her children, Brian, David (Cathy), Robert (Kathy), Gordon (Cathy), Cindy (Eugene); grandchildren, Shawn, Amie, Jessica, Gavin, David, Christopher, Emily, Aaron, Kayla; five great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. She is also survived by her brother, Vaughn, her sister, Joan and has joined her father, Walter, mother, Frances (nee Matthews), brothers, Roland, Eric and Delma. Although born and raised in Debert, Delena, after marrying Basil, moved to Ontario in 1952 and subsequently Quebec in 1954 where she and Basil raised their five children until they returned home to Nova Scotia (New Glasgow) in 1977. In 1989, upon Basil’s retirement, Delena and Basil moved to Truro to be nearer to family and long-time friends, and to enjoy their retirement. Delena was known for her love of life, sense of humour, passion for her family, baking and strength of will; characteristics which carried her through life and remained with her until her final moment. On Delena’s behalf, her family would like to thank all of those who were instrumental in providing comfort and support during her last months and a special thank you to the Palliative Care Team on the 4th Floor of Colchester Regional Hospital for their care and attention to Delena during her stay over the past month. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Delena’s family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m., Saturday, June 16, 2012. Funeral service will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, June 17, 2012, at Debert Baptist Church, 1273 Plains Road, Debert, Pastor Bill Martin officiating. Interment in Main Road Cemetery, Debert. In lieu of flowers, donations in Delena’s memory to Canadian Cancer Society or Colchester Regional Hospital Foundation are welcomed.
