The family of Sheila Billard are sad to announce her peaceful passing on June 20, 2012, with her family by her side.
Born on Jan. 9, 1946 in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Warren ‘Doc’ MacLennan and Doris (Purdy) MacLennan.
Sheila had a long and distinguished career that spanned over 40 years as a Registered Nurse in North Sydney, Sydney Mines, Halifax and Baddeck. More importantly to Sheila, she enjoyed the camaraderie of working alongside medical professionals over the course of her career. She particularly cherished her time working with elderly patients at Harbourview Hospital in Sydney Mines and Alderwood Nursing Home in Baddeck. Several of Sheila's closest nursing friends were at her side throughout her recent illness.
She was an active contributor to her community. She was a member of Carman United Church in Sydney Mines and attended Greenwood United Church in Baddeck. She was active in several committees and she is a former member of Sydney Presbytery. Sheila is a Past Regent of the Archibald Chapter of the IODE.
Sheila will be missed by her many friends and family, including her husband, Winston; her sons Jason (Lexie) and Aaron (Lori-Ann); her sister, Cathy and her special brothers-in-law, Darrell Whitman and Dave Kay. Dear to her heart were her grandchildren, Logan and Ethan, and Allie Jane and Eli. Of special mention was Sheila's relationship with her cousins, the MacLennans, who were such a significant part of her life from childhood to her final day. Also, the family would to express their deep appreciation to her close friends and care givers, Joan Chiasson, Adele McInnis, Nancy Boutilier, Marina Newman, Cathy Gregory, Carol Smith, Charlotte Roach and Christine MacFarlane.
In addition to her parents, Sheila was predeceased by her sister, Arlie Beth (MacLennan) Kay and her grandmother Ada Jane MacLennan.
