James Brophy

of Fermeuse, aged 90 years old. It is with great sadness that the family of the late James Brophy (lovingly known as 'Long Jim') announce his passing. Jim was born in Fermeuse and was Foreman on the fish plant in Fermeuse from its opening in 1952 until his retirement in 1981. Jim is predeceased by his wife Clara, parents Thomas and Elizabeth, brothers Patrick, Edward, Charlie, Kevin and Anthony and sister Annie. Left with fond and loving memories are his 9 children: Jocelyn Costello (Kevin) of Whitehorse, Owen (Barb) Brophy of Goulds, Wanda (Kenneth) Drew of Bay Bulls, Rosarie O'Dea of St. John's, Elizabeth (Harry) Barron of St. John's, Roy (Colleen) Brophy of Goulds, Todd (Maxine) Brophy of Paradise, Tina (Kevin) Tracey of Goulds, and Olga (Clarke) Dale of St. John's. Cherished grandchildren: Sherri-Lynn and Shivonne Costello (father Ian Costello), Kimberlee Brophy (Justin), Christopher and Renee Drew, Johnathan O'Dea (father Charlie O'Dea), Jessica and Sheldon Barron, Janine, Janelle and James Brophy, Liam, Sean and Sarah Brophy, Stephanie Tracey, Zachery and Mackenzie Dale and Dillon Brophy. He will be missed by special sister Sal Walsh of Kingman's Cove; sisters-in-law: Mary Brophy, Rita Brophy and Lena Oates of Fermeuse, Catherine Brophy of St. John's, Mary Brophy of Boston, Aggie (Ray) Kenny of Deer Lake, Jessie (Ray) Power of St. John's and brother-in-law Cyril Murphy of Witless Bay, special nephew Des (Dianne) Brophy, and special niece Virginia (Brian) Pennell, long time friend Jean Fahey and a large circle of family and friends. Visitation and a celebration of Jim's life will take place at Fahey's Funeral Home in Fermeuse on Wednesday, June 27 & Thursday, June 28 from 2 - 9 p.m. with a service being held at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Fermeuse on Friday, June 29 at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery.
