THOMPSON, RITA MARY - At the Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour NB on June 27, 2012, Mrs. Rita Mary (Richard) Thompson wife of the late Mr. John A. Thompson Sr., of Blacks Harbour NB. Born at Notre-Dame NB on March 22, 1922, she was a daughter of the late John J. and Mary B. (Babineau) Richard. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, she is survived by one son, John (Denise) Thompson of Blacks Harbour, four daughters; Rita (Michael) Rogers of Arizona, Frances Creary of Saint John NB, Rosemary (Mike) Swain of Calgary AB and Darlene Thompson of Blacks Harbour, eight grandchildren; Sean (Sarah) Creary, Andrew (Jen) Creary, Kelly (David) Cates, Christina (Robbie) Barry, Joey (Kari) Daigle, Shawna Thompson, Cameron Daigle and Lucas Swain, nine great grandchildren; Taylor, Jared, Sadie, Emmie, Dylan, Katherine, Jack, Weston and Kaylee, two brothers; Antonie (Elodie) and Ulysse (Rita), eight sisters; Lorraine, Cecile, Corrine, Juliette, Terese, Flora (Normand), Rosemarie and Jeannine (Ronald), one sister in law, Bernice Thompson and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Rita was predeceased by siblings; Aurrise, Yvonne, Norman, Edgar, Francis and Stella and by one son in law, George Creary. Prior to her retirement, Rita worked at the Fundy Health Center in Blacks Harbour. She was an avid card player and was known to be the family’s card shark. She had a passion for knitting and quilting and loved to be outside in the garden enjoying her flowers. Rita also enjoyed winning a string of Bowling. She was a member of the Harbour View Seniors, the C.W.L., Blacks Harbour and a long time member of the Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB with visiting on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Blacks Harbour NB on Saturday at 11:00 am with Father Rolando Suplido officiating followed by the interment at the parish cemetery. In Rita’s memory, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. (www.stgeorgefh.ca)
