GODENIR: Kathleen Alberta "Kay" Godenir of Swift Current passed away June 20, 2012 at the Palliser Regional Care Centre in Swift Current. The funeral service was held June 23, 2012 at First United Church with Rev. Sharon Ferguson-Hood officiating. The eulogy was given by her son Steven Godenir, the pianist was Joan Williamson and the soloist was Val Speiser. The pallbearers were Chris Godenir, Travis Godenir, Jody Godenir-Schmaltz, Richard Godenir, Douglas Davidson, and Victor Godenir. The ushers were Clark Davidson and Reg Orr. The interment service took place at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Swift Current, SK. Surviving are: two sons, Steven Godenir (Val Speiser) and Allen (Faye) Godenir; Allen's children: Chris (Carla) Godenir, Jody (Shane) Schmaltz-Godenir, and Travis Godenir; great granddaughters Kesha Godenir, Madison Henry and Brooke Wilk; sisters: Lois (Jack) Davidson, Madeline (Jerry) Cleaver, Joyce (Sidney) Hazel, Sheila Nicholas, Marion (Keith) Turnbull and Jean (Neil) McManus; along with brothers Cecil (Audrey) Orr and David (Dolores) Orr. She was predeceased by her parents Wesley and Alice Orr (nee: Clarke), her son Gregory, her husband Henry, all of Henry's siblings and their spouses, her older sister Irene, and 2 brothers Jack and Wesley Orr. Kathleen was born in Aneroid SK and grew up on the Orr homestead, 28 miles south of Ponteix in the Broncho School District. She was married to Henry Joseph Godenir at Mankota United Church on June 30, 1947. Their first home was on the Godenir Homestead, in the same yard as Marcel and Veronica Godenir. They soon moved to the Wallard District, where they rented the Jack Williams farm for 3 years. Then they moved 7 miles north of Ponteix, where they farmed for about 33 years. Kathleen was an excellent cook and seamstress, kept a big garden, helped with field work and kept a beautiful yard. She and Henry earned a Master Farm award from the government of Saskatchewan in 1967. They enjoyed visiting, having company and hosted memorable Grey Cup parties. Kathleen's primary passions were singing, dancing and flowers. She participated in round dancing and square dancing, both with Henry and later in her widowed years. Kathleen was an avid reader, a writer and an enthusiastic member of the Swift Current Toastmasters Club for numerous years. Kathleen enjoyed bowling and curling, and especially loved golfing. She is a former president of the curling club. Kathleen was an organizing member and avid participant in the local community college. She was a very creative and artistic person. The oil painting courses were Kathleen's favourites. In 1977, at the age of 48, she completed her grade 12 with a grade-point average in the top 10% of the province. Kathleen was an accomplished visual artist in various media. She was a census taker on at least 2 occasions. Kathleen was baptized Anglican, but was a member of the United Church of Canada for most of her adult life. During this time she was a very active member of the United Church Women, had Bible studies in her home on occasion, was a Presbytery Rep., and took in various retreats and workshops. Kathleen was formerly involved in the Red Cross, Royal Purple and the Order of Eastern Star, from which she demitted. Kathleen and Henry retired to Swift Current in 1984, where Kathleen lived for the next 28 years. Kathleen and Henry had a cabin at Lac Pelletier during the farm years and early years in Swift Current. They also spent winters in Mesa Arizona at the Deserama Mobile Home Community from the early 1980s until the early 1990s. She was an enthusiastic and proud docent for the Swift Current Art Gallery. Kathleen was a member of the Scrabble Club, numerous bridge clubs, numerous Bible studies, and regularly worked at the First United Church rummage sales. She moved to Riverview Village Estates in 2009, where she spent her last 3 years. Kathleen was as unique and special as a moon flower on the prairies.The family would appreciate memorial donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
