Harry Benjamin
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Harry Benjamin on February 22 in Argentina after a short illness with his loving wife at his side. Cremation has taken place. Born in Amherst Head and growing up in Hillside, he was the first son of Hubert and Delta (Mills) Benjamin. Harry began his working career with the Bank of NS and then the office of Trenton Car Works before joining the Air Force. Harry was a 17 year veteran of the R.C.A.F., only taking early retirement as a result of losing his vision. In spite of his loss of vision, through great perseverance and determination, he went on to enjoy a successful career with Telesat Canada. After his second retirement, he spent his time between Ottawa and Argentina. He was the beloved husband of Isabel Dal Pozzo, Argentina, and father of Dwayne (Christine) Toronto ON, Kim and Scott Ottawa, ON. He leaves behind cherished grandchildren, John, Katie, Emily, Madeleine and Grant and the mother of his children, Janet Wilson (formerly of Westville). He also leaves his brothers Roderick (Linda) Toronto, ON and Wyman (Helen) Dartmouth ,NS, and sister-in-law Mary Lou Coady, Trenton, NS along with many nieces and nephews. He is now with his brothers, Elton and Allister and parents Hubert Benjamin and Delta MacDonald (Mills). Harry and Isabel enjoyed a wonderful and cherished life together for 16 years in Argentina. He was very much loved and will be missed by his Canadian family and in Argentina, by all of Isabel’s family, his doctors, and the many friends he made while living there, especially his Canadian friend Elizabeth Graham Gonzalez. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday July 7, 2012, at First United Church, Trenton, NS with Rev. Dr. Ken MacLeod presiding. A reception will be held immediately following the service in the church hall. Following the reception, a family interment will be held at the Hillside Cemetery, Trenton, NS. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind or a charity of your choice.
