CONNOR: Maurice Ivor Connor, known as Mike, passed away on July 10, 2012 at the Kyle Health Centre. Mike is survived by his wife of 66 years Orma, daughter Dianne (Gordon) Moreside, grandchildren Jaclyn (Chris) Davis, Steven (Shawna) Moreside, Liam (Sheree) Connor and great grandchildren Brady & Lauryn Davis, Cohen Moreside and Nevin Connor, numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Ivor and Mina O'Connor, beloved son Terrance Connor, sisters Eileen Plant, Florence Rowland, Tibbie Plant, mother and father in law Ed and Emma Faragher, brothers in law Alden Plant, Vic Plant, Reg Rowland, Lorne Faragher, nephews Sheldon Plant, Ivor Plant and niece Colleen Hackl. Mike was born in Cabri, Sk., on June 11th, 1917. He moved with his mother and sisters in Scotland in 1921 and returned in 1928. He attended school in Scotland and at Miry Creek School. In 1942, Mike enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. After taking some exams, he was asked to become a part of the air crew but choose to become ground crew so that he could learn all he could about airplanes. He was posted in Newfoundland, spending the majority of his time in Gander and Torbay. He was discharged from the R.C.A.F. in February 1946. Mike married Orma Grace Faragher on June 15th, 1946. This past June they celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary. Mike held a number of jobs during his life. He worked in the Plumbing and Heating business, custodian at the Swift Current Comp. School and with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. He truly loved to keep busy. Mike was active in many recreational activities. He loved to golf, bowl and pitch horseshoes. He was very competitive, always commenting that he "wanted to play a real game!" Mike played in numerous provincial and national competitions for all of these sports and captured numerous titles that adorned his walls over the years. He was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #56 in Swift Current. He was a Life Member as was proud to help out whenever and wherever someone needed him. Whether it was selling poppies or serving on the honour guard, Mike was always happy to lend a hand. Mike was a proud grandpa and great grandpa. He spent many hours taking his grandchildren out to the golf course, the bowling alley as well as the horseshoe pitch in Riverdene. Many games of Rummy, checkers ad crokinole were played in the house when you couldn't go outside. He wasn't able to spend as much time with his great grandkids but he dotted on them none the less. Mike entered the Kyle Health Centre in June 2009 and remained there until his death. The Funeral Service was held at the Chapel at Warren's Funeral Home on Monday, July 16th, 2012 with Jim MacNaughton officiating. The Organist was Arlene Olson. Eulogy was read by Jim MacNaughton. Urn Bearer was Steven Moreside. Honorary Pallbearers were all his friends. Internment was held at The Mount Pleasant Cemetery Veterans Plot. Piper at the Internment was Neil McCrie. Donations on behalf of Mike would be appreciated by the family at the SPCA or the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56.
