It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of John ‘Booga Booga’ Melnick on Sunday July 15, 2012 at the QEII Health Sciences Hospital, Halifax.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Frank and Margaret (Payne) Melnick.
He was a fisherman by trade. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending time in the outdoors with friends and family.
Booga Booga is survived by his children, Jeanie Lind, Glace Bay, Barry Morrison, Glace Bay, Susanne (Michael) Melnick-Hine, Ontario his grandchildren, Hayden, Brandi, Mark, Erica, Kora and Hannah and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Agnes Melnick, Glace Bay, Anne McNamara, Pictou, N.S., Stella Sharpe, Glace Bay, Helen (Bernie) Sharpe, Glace Bay, John Payne MacKinnon, Halifax, Billy Melnick, Ontario, Frankie (Lois) Melnick, Glace Bay, Norman (Barb) Melnick, Pictou, N.S., brothers-in-law, Cyril McNamara and Dave Sharpe; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his son, Brian Cameron; sisters, Wanda and Sheila; brother, Joey.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2012 at St. John’s Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Leo Boone officiating.
