It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Alfred ‘Butch’ Simmons who passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with his loving wife, Kay and his family by his side.
Butch was born in Glace Bay to the late Effie Simmons and raised by his grandparents, George and Marcella Simmons.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Kay Kelloway; sisters, Mae (Ron) Turner, Glace Bay, Marcella (the late Bert Angelo), Delsie (Sandy) Simms and brothers, Fred Simmons, Sonny Simmons, Tommy Gaskell and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his beloved son, Alfred James ‘Butch Jr.’ Kelloway and by brothers, George, Peter, Bill, Calvin Gaskell and Warrick Simmons and sister, Miriam.
Visitation for Butch will take place on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 from 6-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will take place on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Patten Chapel with Lieuts. Josh and Joyce Downer officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Diabetes Association or to a charity of choice.
