FERGUSSON, BARBARA BORDEN – 85, Dartmouth. The family of Barbara Fergusson wishes to announce her peaceful passing on July 20, 2012. Born in Halifax, NS and raised in Annapolis Royal, NS, Barb was the daughter of the late Roy Smith and Gladys Smith (Borden). Her grandfather was Dr. B.C. Borden, a long-time President of Mount Allison University. Barb was a graduate of the University of King's College in Halifax, NS where she met her husband of 59 years, Ferg Fergusson. Barb spent her life in selfless duty to others from the raising of her three children to a lifetime commitment to volunteering. She held positions on the Boards of the Northwood Foundation and Dartmouth VON and was a long-time sustaining member of the Junior League of Halifax and member of the associated Garden Club. Her recent associations were with the Tuesday Morning DREA Bridge Club and Overdale Lane Bridge Club. Barb is survived by her husband, Ferg and her sister, Joan Harrison of Annapolis Royal, as well as three sons: Jim (Phyllis) of Oakville, Ontario, Stuart (Andrea) of Kingston, Ontario, Ian (Nancy Edwards) of Dartmouth, NS, and five grandchildren, Scott, Shawn, Eric, Erin and Emily and many nieces and nephews. The family would especially like to thank all friends and family who visited, sent best wishes and wrote letters to Barb. We also extend a sincere thank you to the attending staff of the Dartmouth General Hospital and the care givers of the Red Cross. Barb's recent annual gifts included Feed Nova Scotia, Salvation Army, Alzheimer, Arthritis, Cancer, Diabetes and Lung Associations, King's College, Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia Symphony, Nova Scotia Art Gallery and Neptune Theatre. Memorial gifts may be made to any of these organizations or the charity of your choice. After cremation, there will be a private family graveside service in Annapolis Royal.
