It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Earl Roderick Flynn on July 25, 2012, with his loving niece Patsy by his side
Born in Glace Bay on Jan. 27, 1949, he was a son of the late William and Emily (MacPherson) Flynn.
Earl was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University and was employed for many years as a social worker at the Nova Scotia Provincial Building in Sydney before his retirement.
He spent many years as a volunteer with CID (Canadian Involvement with the Disabled) and held the position of past president.
At the time of his death, Earl was president of LEO (Nova Scotia League for Equal Opportunities) and received an award in 2006 for his contributions to the disability movement. Earl worked tirelessly assisting and improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. He spent many hours lobbying, fundraising and fighting for human rights for all.
Earl will be forever remembered as a sensitive, kind, dedicated human being who brightened the lives of those who had the privilege to know him. He could always been seen taking his daily walks, often wearing his Toronto Maple Leafs jersey; he was a proud fan.
Earl will be sadly missed by his family and friends. His thoughtfulness and warm heartedness will never be forgotten.
Earl is survived by brothers, Joseph (Helen), Kentville, Darrell (Eileen), Glace Bay; stepson, William Peterson, New Brunswick; sister-in-law, Olga Flynn, Glace Bay; nieces, Patsy (Barry), Emily-Grace, both of Glace Bay; nephews, Danny (Christine), Donkin, Mark, Ontario, Patrick, Halifax; grandnieces, Brianna, Yarmouth, Danielle, Donkin; grandnephew, Jonathan, Glace Bay.
