Jessie MacNeil, 91 of Baker Avenue, New Waterford, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2012, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Isaac and Sarah (Fraser) Rich.
Jessie was a member of St. Leonard Church and the CWL. She graduated from the New Waterford General Hospital as an RN in 1942 and went to work in Brantford, Ont. In later years, Jessie worked part time at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital and Lingan Mine. She had a good sense of humour and a deep passion for baking. Jessie was an avid bridge player. She also enjoyed visits from her family and friends.
Jessie is survived by five sons, Stephen (Anne), Calgary, Frank (Lori), New Waterford, Michael (Donna), Winnipeg, John (Susan), New Waterford, Greg (Brenda), Halifax; two daughters, Mary (Bill) MacLean, Charlottetown, and Monica 'Mona' (Michael) Guttman, Calgary. Jessie is also survived by two sisters, Chris Burke, New Waterford, Judy Moore, U.S.A.; 16 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; special neighbours, Diane and Dinny Desveaux and a special niece, Sandra MacNeil.
Jessie was predeceased by her husband, Stephen MacNeil, three brothers, Murray, Isaac Jr. 'Sonny', Stan and three sisters, Bernice Ryan, Mary 'May' Bishop and Theresa.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Ray Huntley is Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard's Church followed by interment in St. Agnes Cemetery. The reception will be held at St. Leonard's Hall on Convent Street.
As an expression of sympathy for Jessie, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the CNIB or a charity of one's choice.
