Kenneth Leroy "Ken" Caldwell

Caldwell, Kenneth Leroy “Ken”, Valley, NS, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Williams Country Home in Hilden. Born in Hardwood Lands on April 5, 1935, he was a son of the late Egbert L. and Alice (Gay) Caldwell. Ken was employed with Simpson Sears, then Central Agencies before beginning his own Insurance business in 1964 which became Caldwell Roach Insurance Agencies in 1965 and from which he retired in 1992. He was an avid collector of Military memorabilia. He was a former member of the Truro Kinsmen Club, NS Insurance Brokers Association, Elder and Clerk of Session of Saint David's United Church, Bible Hill, Elder of Valley United Church and treasurer of Coldstream Pastoral Charge of the United Church. At the time of his passing he was a member of Valley United Church, a member of Hub Campers, and a member of The Maritime Military Collectors Society. He is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth Sutherland, and daughters, Kenda (Keith) Merry, Stratford, PEI, and Christene (Steven) Caudle, Valley, grandchildren Ryan and Chelsea Merry, Parker and Nathan Caudle, brother Egbert (Helen) Caldwell, Valley, and sisters Blanche (Earl) Tanner, Mary (Ross) Boylan, both of Hardwood Lands, and sisters-in-law Blanche McNutt, Truro and Phyllis C Sutherland, Calgary. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Muriel (in infancy). The void he has left in our lives and in our hearts will never be filled, but he has left with us so many happy memories that he will continue to be a huge part of our family forever. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 pm today, August 4, and funeral service 2:30 pm on Sunday, August 5, all in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, with Rev. Mary White officiating. A reception will follow the funeral service in the funeral home. Interment will then be held in the Crossroads Cemetery in Valley. If desired, donations in Ken’s memory may be made to the VON, the Valley United Church or to a charity of your choice.
