STEHLE, Louise of Swift Current, SK passed away at Swift Current Care Centre at the age of 97 years, on July 26, 2012. Louise was born on June 15, 1915 in Germany, the youngest of nine children. She was predeceased by her father and mother, four brothers (two of whom died in early childhood) and four sisters. Louise is survived by six nephews and nieces in Canada and four in Germany. It was in Germany that she received her primary education. She loved learning and dreamed of someday becoming a nurse. In 1929 she emigrated to Canada along with her mother and two older sister. They joined an older brother who was already settled in the McMahon area. While there she enrolled as a student to continue her education now in English. Later the family moved to a farm in the Bigford district and again enrolled as a student. The need to work to help with family expenses became necessary. Soon at the age of 16 she found work helping many farm ladies during busy times of year. Thus began her career as a domestic worker in the Braddock, Hallonquist and Neidpath areas. An interruption in her career came when she contracted tuberculosis in 1939 and had to spend three and one half years in Fort San, Saskatchewan recovering from the disease. Those years were a blessing in disguise for she used her time to learn, becoming fully fluent in speaking and writing English plus developing a love for poetry and song. Any weakness the disease may have caused, never prevented her from doing the things she treasured. She enjoyed the simpler things life had to offer. Her flower gardens were refreshing and pleasing; her vegetable gardens were necessary and satisfying. When the work was done for the day there was time to relax with a needle and thread for sewing and embroidering, needles and yarn for knitting or a hock and thread for crocheting. These hobbies brought her hours and pleasure and worthwhile rewards. These things developed in her a respect for God's Word, reading it regularly. In 1955 She moved to Swift Current. It was then that her nursing instincts resurfaced. She was able to open the home to several elderly folks, who needed some care. This she did until she retired in 1975. Since then, she was often heard reminiscing of the days she gave of herself to help those in need. A lesson Aunt Louise taught us younger ones is to always "make the best of it, regardless of the situation". She did! Warren's Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements. The funeral was held on August 6, 2012 with Richard Stark officiating. Internment followed in Mount Pleasant Burial Park.
