Mary Carmella (Turner) Thiel
Lieu de décès : Dominion, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
We regret to announce the passing our dear mom, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend, Mary Carmella Thiel (nee Turner) from Dominion with a very courageous and sudden battle with cancer.
Trying to describe Mom is very easy to do; she was so caring and thoughtful, funny, smart, and always put her children and grandchildren before anything else in her life. She was always there for each and every one of us no matter what. She was in all aspects of her life the best mom a child could ask for and never asked for anything in return for herself just that her family live good lives and be happy and be good to others. Mom’s religious beliefs were also a very important part of her life and always prayed for everyone that needed prayer.
Mom devoted most of her life to her children and taught each and every one of us the true values in life even at times if we didn’t think we should listen. Mom was a very wise person who never said a bad thing about anyone. She always figured people had good sides and never wished any harm to anyone. Mom spent most of her time at home cooking and cleaning, raising four children and also helped raise two amazing granddaughters who lived with her. Mom’s favourite thing to do was to be there for her kids. She always told us that’s what she loved to do. Mom was very lucky to have been here to see her two granddaughters Rebecca and Jessica graduate from high school this year. She was very proud of them and proud of her grandson Matt who graduated from Holland College from the Police Academy.
Mom also had a great sense of humour and told many different stories over the years and always stories we would never forget. Mom also looked forward to her trips each year to the Shrine in Quebec to St Anne De Beaupre with her sister Kathleen and her brother-in-law Tim and they always had some interesting stories when they returned. Mom was unable to get there this year because of her illness.
Mom is survived by her daughters, Tracey (George), at home, Laurie (John McDonald), Dominion; sons, Barry, who resides in Fort Nelson, B.C. and Mark, Sydney; sister, Kathleen (Tim), Glace Bay; brothers, Vincent (Dorothy), Glace Bay, and Stephen, Sydney. Mom also has left behind her special grandchildren, Rebecca, Matt, Jess and her little angel Olivia who will be lost without Nan around and Keisha her little dog. Mom also leaves behind her best friend and her sister Kathleen who will be lost without being able to talk to her everyday like they have done for so many years. Mom and Kay always shared a special bond and although they are sisters they were the best of friends beyond what anyone could ever imagine. P.S. Mom ... remember to call Kathleen.
Mom was predeceased by her mom Mary, father Alfred, brother Alfred and daughter Ruth in infancy and several aunts and uncles.
Visitation from 12-2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9 at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. Funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. The Rev Norman MacPhee will be officiating. Burial to follow in St Anne’s Cemetery.
