We regret to announce the passing of Marion (McEachern) Gillis of Logue Drive, Sydney on Aug. 9, 2012 at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with her loving family at her side.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Florence (MacIntyre) McEachern.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Marion was a former employee of Woolworths and later Woolco. She enjoyed skating and concerts but her greatest love was her many trips in her motor home travelling with friends. Marion was one of the original campers at Ben Eoin Beach. She treasured the time spent there every summer with her very special friends, walking the beach and sharing a campfire.
She leaves behind her daughters, Pauline MacDonald, Sydney, Sharon (Damien) Boudreau, Halifax, Mary (Russell) Spencer, Main a Dieu; son, John (Cathy), London, Ont.; grandchildren, Tracey, Lindy, Melissa, J.D., Kristen, Stephen, Alex and Rebecca Marion, who were the love of her life; her precious great-grandchildren, Robyn, Tommy, Jack, Logan, Allie and Clara Marion; sisters-in-law, Jeanette MacEachern and Girlie Gillis; brothers-in-law, Bernard (Katie), Greg (Betty) MacDonald.
Besides her parents, Marion was predeceased by husbands, Lawrence MacDonald and John A. Gillis; sisters, Pauline Gillespie, Gertrude; brothers, Arnold, Murdoch, Terrance, Harold and Merle.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mt. Carmel Avenue with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. Burial in St. Agnes Cemetery. A reception will follow in St. Leonard's Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Marion's name to The Canadian Red Cross.
