It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Florence Weir, on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Born in Petty Harbour, N.L., she was the daughter of the late George and Jessie (Chafe) Whitten.
Florence worked as a seamstress in her younger years, and then devoted her life to caring for her husband Lloyd and their children. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.
She is survived by her three sons, Harold (Helen Wall), North Sydney, Wayne (Diane), Antigonish, Keith (Linda Croft), Bridgewater; her two daughters, Darlene (Shawn Martell), Lisa Weir, both of Halifax; by her seven grandchildren, Matthew, Chad, Chase, Jennifer, David, Maiya and Keara.
Florence was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd, her son, Perry, two infant sons, Blair, Lloyd, her two brothers, Tom, John Whitten and her sister, Hannah Pack.
Visitation for Florence will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Debbie Strickland officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
