Frances George-Ann Owen
OWEN, FRANCES GEORGE-ANN (nee FLEMING) - It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of George-Ann on Thursday, August 9th, 2012 at the St. Catharines General Hospital. Wife of the late John V. Owen (1987). Survived by her daughter Frances A. Owen and her son J. Victor Owen and his wife Sheila Moores, her grandchildren James G. Owen, Julie V. Owen and Evan M. Owen, her sister Holly Swope, nieces Jude Dehart (Damon), Wendy Skillings (James) and Kate Swope (Christopher Green) and her great nieces and nephews Nicholas and Holly Dehart, Alden and Alexander Skillings, Merrill, Campbell and Bannon Green. Born in Boston, Mass., George-Ann grew up in Rothesay, New Brunswick where she attended Netherwood School. She later graduated from Acadia University and attended graduate school at Simmons College in Boston. She worked as a librarian in university and public libraries and for many years at schools in Hudson, Quebec. George-Ann moved to Thorold in 1992 to enjoy the local arts scene, particularly the Shaw Festival. It is with heavy hearts that we must say goodbye to our wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, but our memories of George-Ann will remain with us forever.
A celebration of George-Ann's life will be held at St. Thomas' Anglican Church (99 Ontario St., St. Catharines) on Saturday, August 18th at 1:00 PM. Reception to follow at St. Catharines Golf and Country Club. Previously laid to rest at Mount Royal Cemetery, Montreal. We thank Rev. Kevin Bothwell for his support and guidance. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to St. Thomas' Anglican Church, the Shaw Festival or the CFUW Gift of Reading Program.
