It is with deep sadness that the family announces the loss of our Aunt Germaine. We are truly grateful for all the love and wisdom she has brought into our lives. Germaine will be dearly missed as the last surviving member of her family.
Germaine was born in Poulamond, Richmond County. She was the daughter of the late James H. and Marie Louise (Benoit) LeBlanc.
She moved to Sydney at age three and lived for many years in the north end. She was a member of Sacred Heart parish and more recently St. Anthony Daniel.
Germaine was a graduate of Holy Angels High School and the Cape Breton Business College. She worked as a bookkeeper at several Sydney businesses: Eastern Bakeries, Singer Sewing Machine, Russell Smith Appliances and retired from CJCB radio after 20 years.
Germaine enjoyed entertaining, travelling, playing cards and music. She showed great interest in world events, politics and the Montreal Canadiens.
In her quiet friendly manner, she took a great interest in the lives of her large extended family right up until the last weeks of her life. Her last three years were spent at the MacGillivray Guest Home, where she participated in many activities and enjoyed the company of the staff and guests.
A special thanks to Jodie Gentile and all the wonderful and devoted caregivers who made her feel at home.
Germaine is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
She was predeceased by sisters, Estelle (Leo) McMaster, Juliette (Bernie) O’Brien, Clo (Francis) Pertus and brothers, Armand (Kathleen), Clem (Ethel), Remi (Marie), Ray (Catherine) and Gus (May).
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Daniel Church, Rev. D. MacGillivary officiating. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Sydney.
Donations in Germaine’s memory may be made to the MacGillivray Guest Home, Loaves and Fishes or a charity of your choice.
