Our lives were blessed, our prayers were answered by the love of a very special mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Therefore, we regret to announce the passing of our ‘Special Mom’ who died peacefully at home on Lingan Road on Aug. 18, 2012.
Mom was born June 25, 1920, the youngest child of the late Joseph and Margaret (Matheson) Lively.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and a dedicated member of Holy Redeemer parish for over 70 years. Mom was a member of the Whitney Pier Seniors Club where she made many lasting friendships and enjoyed her time with all her neighbours on the “Hill”.
Widowed at the age of 45, mom went on to raise her 10 children with strength and determination. She was a very gentle woman who was at peace with her God, herself and all others. She was a woman of faith who trusted in God even through the loss of her husband and four sons, she knew God was with her. She was a woman of prayer who spoke to her God each and every day of her life. Mom was also known for her infectious smile which always made everyone feel so special.
Left to mourn are her six children, Peggy Burt Brophy (Eric), Ronnie (Diane), Beverly Muise (Elmer), Germaine McLeod (Ken), Deborah Lessie (Jack) and David (Mary). She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Annette. She will be truly missed by her 22 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren, who all held a very special place in her heart. Mom is also survived by her sister-in-law, Carmie French, Glace Bay, and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her husband, Cecil in 1965, her sons, John 1992, Bobby 2003, Terry 2005, and Eddie 2008, and by her brothers, John and Eddie, sisters, Annie Mae, Margaret, Katie and Gladys, son-in-law, Harry Burt and daughter-in-law, Sylvia (Candalora) French.
As per mom’s wishes, there will be no visitation. The funeral mass to celebrated her life will take place at Holy Redeemer Church, Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at 11 a.m. Celebrant, Rev. Paul Murphy. Burial to take place in Calvary Cemetery, Brook Street, Whitney Pier. Reception to follow at the Italian Hall, corner of Henry Street and Gatacre Street.
Donations in memory of mom can be made to the following charities: The Diabetes Society, Cape Breton Regional Cancer Center, Holy Redeemer Cemetery Fund or charity of one’s choice.
