BELTER: Clifford Douglas (Cliff) Belter, 71 of Herbert, Saskatchewan passed away Saturday, Aug. 18 in his home. He was born March 27, 1941 in Rush Lake, Saskatchewan. Clifford was enjoying his well deserved retirement. He is survived by his son Michael (Fay), granddaughters Emily and Gracie of Surrey, BC, daughter in law Kathy Belter, grandson Mitchell, granddaughter Danielle of Naperville, IL, brother Larry (Val) of Swift Current, SK, and brother Clarence (Colleen) of Coaldale, AB. and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth of Herbert, SK, son Sheldon (Kathy) of Naperville, IL., father Charles and mother Magdelena (Madge). A graveside service, open to all, was held on Saturday, Aug 25, 2012, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Swift Current. An informal gathering was held shortly thereafter at Ashley Park Community Hall. Al Martens presided over the ceremony and Al Kildaw recited the Eulogy. Clifford was a hard working farm boy. While growing up he attended school at Herbert High School. Clifford enjoyed most sports. He was successful at curling when his team made it to the Saskatchewan Provincial School Boys finals. Cliff graduated from Herbert High School in 1959. Cliff met Elizabeth (Betty) Wiebe. They fell in love and were married on June 24, 1961. A short time later, son Sheldon Douglas was born on March 12,1962. Clifford began his working career at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Swift Current for a short time, and then the family moved to Glaslyn, Saskatchewan where he continued with his banking career. Clifford then moved back to Rush Lake where Cliff planned a slight career change. During this short time Michael Scott was born on June 10,1964. Clifford then obtained an accounting position with Marathon Oil in Shaunavon Saskatchewan. Clifford upgraded his education at the University of Saskatchewan, and then the family moved to Big River, Saskatchewan where he managed the Local Improvement District. He enjoyed the work and the fishing. About one and a half years later Clifford was transferred to the Local Improvement District in Paddockwood, Saskatchewan. The family moved right in the middle of winter. Here, Clifford and the family enjoyed the fishing, golfing companionship of great people. After two and a half short years of hard work and fun Clifford felt the draw of home. He and his family moved south to Waldeck, Saskatchewan to be closer to family in the Southwest. Cliff obtained a position as City Clerk in Swift Current. Cliff's career path then led him to the position of Business Administrator for the Swift Current School Division. This was Cliff's last and most significant position in the traditional working world. He retired from the Swift Current School Division in 1997. Clifford remained active in the community, holding the position of Councilor in Waldeck. He still took short term administrative positions throughout southern Saskatchewan. Cliff and Betty made one more move to Herbert, Saskatchewan. Cliff was involved with the Heritage Society and also continued serving the town in various capacities including Councilor. One of his favorite activities was volunteering at the Herbert rodeo. Cliff went through a rough time with the passing of his wife Betty, then his son Sheldon. He persevered with the help and companionship of family and friends. Cliff was considering one last move to a well deserved senior's Resort on the West Coast at the time of his untimely passing. Cliff was a loving Father, Brother, Grandfather, Uncle, and Friend. He will be fondly remembered, and sorrowfully missed.
