M. Edna Laurette of Amherst passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at Gables Lodge in Amherst at the age of 98 years.
Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Patrick and Melvina (Godin) Shannon.
Edna was a dedicated and loving housewife. She worked formerly as a sales clerk with Pridham's Book and China for over 16 years. She was a member of the Holy Family Parish Roman Catholic Church, the C.W.L. and a former member of the church choir.
The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was predeceased by her parents, her husband Gordon; brothers Rev. Father Wilfred Shannon, Richard Shannon , Edward Shannon and Leon Shannon; sisters Leah Chorostkie, and Isabel Maloney. She leaves to mourn, several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst (902-667-8777). Funeral Mass will be celebrated from Holy Family Parish Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 10 am, Rev. Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. As per Edna's wishes, cremation will take place after the Funeral Mass and burial of her ashes with her husband Gordon will take place in the St. Charles-Nativity Cemetrey.
