Gerald Douglas Peters

Peters, Gerald Douglas – 78, Bible Hill, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at home. Born in Truro, May 7th , 1934 he was the son of the late Carl and Pauline (Yuill) Peters. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Jerry worked for Dept. Of Transportation for 20 years, from where he retired in 1994. He was also a former minor baseball coach. He is survived by sons, Randy (Kathy) Amherst, David (Roxane) Halifax, Michael (Jane), Jim (Sharon) both of Truro. As well as his grandchildren, Natasha (Mark), Jamie, Shawn, Bradley, Katelyn, Michaela, Spencer, Emily, Alex, Matthew (Sam), Christopher (Jess), Ashley and one great granddaughter, Annabeth; his aunt Audrey (Hugh) Carter, Brookfield; several nieces and nephews. Jerry was predeceased by his wife Shirley (August, 2012); his parents; his brothers Jimmy, Ron and John. Jerry was an avid paint by number painter. At this time we would like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. N. Bower, Dr. C. Smith, Lisa Wilson, Marilyn MacKean and all VON staff for their endless support and guidance. Last but not least to his personal caregiver Kathy Willis who enabled Jerry to remain in his home for his final days. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 26 from 7-9 pm; memorial service on Monday, August 27 at 2:00 pm, both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Rev. Donna Lawrence officiating. Private interment in Bible Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
