It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Effie Elizabeth Patey, age 91, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at the Northside General Hospital. Effie was a former longtime resident of 112 Peppett St., North Sydney.
Born in Morrisville, NL., Effie was the daughter of the late John and Grace (Kendall) Bobbitt. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney. Effie enjoyed going to bingo games and was a member of the North Sydney Senior Citizens & Pensioners Club.
She is survived by her children Norman (Susan) Patey, Thunder Bay, Bill (Shirley) Patey, Millville, Mona (Gary) Richards, North Sydney, Patty (Ron) Coole, Sydney, Mike Patey, Dryden, ON., Tom Patey (Judy), North Sydney and Fay Patey, Toronto; her 14 grandchildren Robert, Lisa, Gary, Norman, Lauren, Lindsay, Sheila, Denise, Jennifer, Ramona, Shannon, Steven, Brandon, Nicole and many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Effie was predeceased by her husband of 43 years William Patey in 1982; her daughter Debbie in 1958; son Robert in 1989; a grandson John Patey; brothers Raymond, Max, Leonard and Albert; sisters Elsie Ongo and Sylvia Lemon.

Visitation for Effie will be held Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service at 3 p.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, with Rev. Carl Fraser officiating, with burial to follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
