It is with great sadness that we, the family of Marilyn Catherine Nicholson announce her passing on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012. After a two and half year courageous battle with cancer. Marilyn was surrounded by all those who loved her in the end.
Born in Sydney and raised in Whitney Pier, she was the daughter of the late Catherine ‘Katie’ and Ferman Aucoin.
Marilyn loved to garden, a particular love of animals, loved to shop and looked forward to her yearly Caribbean trips. Marilyn was a true Cape Bretoner attending all entertainment events. She will be missed at the Savoy Theatre, Rock the Dock and the Louisbourg Playhouse.
In her early years, she taught Brownies, a 4H Leader for the past 25 years and most recently involved with the Cape Breastoners.
She loved snuggling in front of the television with her poodle “Brandy” on her lap.
Whenever the occasion you could always count on Marilyn to entertain at her house, filled with good food, lots of laughter, and the making of fantastic memories.
Surviving her after 42 years of marriage is her loving husband, Stevie, daughter, Kelly. Also surviving are her siblings, David (Marylou) and Patsy (Kevin). Along with brothers-in-law, Gooie (Pat), Johnie (Terry); sisters-in-law, Shirley (Gary) and Debbie(Kevin), as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to take this time to thank the doctors and nurses of the Cancer Centre and the An Cala Unit at the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 13 at St. Anthony Daniel Church with Fr. Donald MacGillivary officiating. Burial to take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Reception to follow at the Brooks Haven Community Center, Prime Brook.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Marilyn’s memory may be made to the Cancer Patient Care Fund of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation or the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.
