It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Louis Brine age 84 of Lower Cove on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born February 23, 1928 in Joggins, he was a son of the late Stanley and Margaret (Brine) Brine.
In his earlier years Donnie worked in the coal mine, lobster fisherman and drove School Buses as well as a mechanic. Donnie had a great passion for fishing with a net while with friends and family at the Lower Cove Beach as well as gardening.
Donnie will be lovingly remembered by his children, Margaret (Laurie) Melanson, Joggins, Linda Boyd, Amherst, Pat (Sheila), Springhill, Kathy (Al Sponagle) Melanson, New Glasgow, Wade (Wendy), Amherst, Darrah (Helen), Joggins, and Jeremy, Joggins; beloved grandchildren, Josh, Heather, Dakota, Frank, Kendell, Patrick, David, Matthew, Travis, Marley, Chrissy, Stephen, Tyler, Brandon, Ashley, Brice, Morgan, Thomas, Emma, and Sapphire; great grandchildren, Tristen, Sophia, Kendra, Savannah, Evan, Hunter, Rebecca and Michael; Mother of the children and special friend, Shirley Brown; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. Last but not least his furry companion, Lily.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was predeceased by his brothers, George, Doug, Ronnie, Bernie; as well as his sister, Laura Brine.
There will be no visitation by request of the family.
Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 17, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., from St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church in Joggins with Father Phil Thibodeau officiating. Interment will take place in the Ragged Reef Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Donnie's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Ragged Reef Cemetery Fund or charity of your choice.
