Our beloved mother, Lillian Doreen Matheson (nee Wilson), passed away Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Mom was born in New Waterford on April 12, 1921. Lillian was the daughter of the late Richard and Mary Ellen (Blackburn) Wilson.
She was a former resident of St. Joseph’s Street, New Waterford, before moving to Sydney in the early 1970s.
Left to honour her memory are her children, Warren (Teresa) of Mira, Linda MacDonald (Albert) of Winnipeg, Wendy Alaffe (Dana) of Moncton; and her daughter-in-law, Betty Matheson of Dominion. Grandma will be remembered always by her grandchildren, Linda Winters (Brett), Sydney, Trevor Matheson, B.C., Wayne Matheson (Sarah), Lower Sackville, Jason MacDonald (Christina), Winnipeg, Karl MacDonald (Janet), Yukon, Krista MacDonald, Ryan MacDonald (Meghan), both of Winnipeg, and Charlene and Rebecca Alaffe, Halifax. Her great-grandchildren held a special place in her heart, Curtis, Cheryl, Amber, all of Sydney, Seth and Brody, Yukon, and Ben and Jacob, Lower Sackville. Ben and Jacob lovingly referred to mom as, “Doily Grandma” because of all the crocheted doilies she made and displayed; they spent many happy hours playing with them during their visits.
Lillian was predeceased by her husband, Earl Matheson, her son, Richard, daughter-in-law, Joyce Matheson, her sisters, May Weir and Vera Strussi.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Duncan Roach is Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment to follow in Oakfield Cemetery, Mira.

In a handwritten note, Mom said, “My legacy to all of you is my love”. Every time our mother said goodbye to us, she would say, “Don’t forget, I love you.” And rest assured, we never will.
