It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of a devoted mother, loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Susan passed away in her home on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of Jean Neil and Jim MacPhee.
Susan is leaving behind a 12-year-old son, Andrew Meadus MacPhee. For the last several years, she has been committed to ensuring that he had the best quality of life despite the many challenges he faced.
A strong advocate for women, Susan worked as a women’s counsellor at Bryony House, Marguerite Center and Alice Housing. Most recently she was an inspiration as facilitator to the women from the Women Unlimited Program. Many women under Susan’s direction have succeeded in trades and tech programs at NSCC and have gone on to fulfilling careers in the trades.
In addition to her son, Andrew, she will be sadly missed by her mother, Jean Neil, at home; her father, Jim (Margie), Sydney; brothers, Bobby (MaryAnne), Riverview, Ken (Cheryl), Halifax, Chris (Lisa), Sydney, Scott (Beth), Halifax; a sister, Leslie, Halifax, and her oldest and dearest friend, Teenie Kennedy Lohnes. Aunt Susan will be missed by her nine nieces and nephews, Ryan, Alexandra, Kathryn, Erin, Maggie, Rosie, Ian, Sarah and Simon.
Some of Susan’s greatest passions were her feline children, her books and her artistic creations.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a trust fund set up at TD bank on Charlotte Street for her son, Andrew.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.
