MAY, K.A. “JOE”
MARCH 7, 1946 - SEPT. 21, 2012
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father & grandpa. Joe lost his battle with cancer at the Rosedale Hospice in Calgary. Joe was the youngest of eight children born to Hearle & Lett May of Marquis, Sask. He was born in Moose Jaw but was raised on the farm north of
Marquis. Upon leaving school he moved to Wolseley , Saskatchewan to work and met his lifetime partner, Gloria. He returned to M’Jaw in 1963 to attend S.T.I. where he obtained his Journeyman’s Certificate in carpentry. He and Gloria married in 1967 and moved to Calgary two years later. Things were great in
Calgary as he found lots of work with Superior Interiors. His first job was the interior of the International Hotel. Joe went on to start a small company with a friend, B & M Construction and did a lot of framing for Engineered Homes. In the ‘70’s, he struck out on his own forming GLOE Construction, building quality
homes in Calgary and Airdrie. He retired in 2000 but kept doing odd jobs if they suited him. Joe was always kind, caring and considerate. If you needed a door hung, a window repaired or a counter
cut off, he was there for the job. Joe liked to camp, travel, play cards or just visit with his friends and neighbours. He always liked the farm and often helped his Balzac neighbours with seeding, haying & harvest. Joe was predeceased by his parents, brothers Jerry and Merv, brothers-inlaw Merlin Waller and Mel Bathgate, sisters-in-law Grace, Doreen, Marion and nephew Kevin Waller. He will be forever missed by his wife of 45 years,Gloria, daughter Kim Ham (Randy), son Curtis (Michelle) and his two wonderful
grand daughters Amy & Megan Ham. He also leaves behind his sisters Ruth Bathgate and Elaine Waller, his brothers Lorne, Don and Orv as well as Gloria’s two sisters and three brothers and all their families. We thank the nurses and all the staff at the hospice for their TLC as well as all the homecare nurses and
LPN’s for their home visits through this tough time. Also thanks to Joe’s lifelong friend and lunch buddy, Frank Kohout for being there for Joe and his family. A memorial service will be held at the Balzac Community Hall on Monday, October 1st at 1:30.
