It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine (Carew) McGrady on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
Cathy graduated from Riverview High School and spent many years employed at Tierney’s Video in Howie Centre, then at the Membertou Market, as well as Atlantic Superstore in Sydney River.
Cathy is survived by her mother, Catherine ‘Kit’ Carew; her son, Christopher (Nicole), Moncton, N.B.; sisters, Winnie (Clarence), Hamilton, Ont., Carol (Terry), Fernie, B.C., Joan (Peter), Lethbridge, Alta. and brothers, Edward (Neddy), Sydney, N.S., Danny (Betty), Toronto, Ont., Harold (Diane), St. Stephen, N.B.
Cathy also leaves to mourn her special sister-in-law, Jean and nieces, Jennifer, Janell and Kari-Lyn; as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and extended family members.
She was predeceased by her father, Edward ‘Ned’; brother, Allan and former husband, Danny McGrady.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no service by request; however, a private family gathering will take place.
At this time the family would like to thank the numerous doctors and nurses who assisted with Cathy’s ongoing care. Also thank you to the V.O.N., who took the time to make many household visits to help with Cathy’s care and comfort.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Cathy’s name.
