PIKE, Sgt. Harold Arthur CD, R.C.A.F. – 83, of Yarmouth, passed away October 3, 2012 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born April 30, 1929 in Kingsville, Ontario, he was the beloved son of the late Arthur and Alice (Foale) Pike. In his early years, Harold was a shoe salesman, bank teller and also a meat cutter. Later in life, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he served 27 years and had been accredited with the rank of Sergeant. Following his career in the R.C.A.F., he was employed with Customs Canada and Corps of Commissionaires. His hobbies consisted of being an avid accomplished accordion player, golfing, bowling, darts, dancing, playing Santa, model railroading, catering, drawing, fishing and helping at the local Food Bank. Harold had earned medals with different organizations he was involved in, which included: CD, 50 year pin with Masonic Lodge and a bronze medal for cooking for the summer Olympics in Gimli, Lake Winnipeg, Man. He was known by a few as “Papa Pike” and a grandfather figure to many of his neighbors. Harold was a true gentleman who loved people and will be remembered by many. He was a devoted husband of 52 years to Caroline E. “Carolyn” (Thibeault) Pike; loving father to Paul (Angela), Halifax; Sonia, Dryden, Ont.; adoring grandpa to Allison, Halifax; most caring brother-in-law to Joyce and Ulysse LeBlanc and their daughters, Sally, Carolyn, Lisa and their families. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation took place Friday, October 5 from 7-9 p.m., with prayers at 8 p.m. Funeral mass was held Saturday, October 6 at 10 a.m. from St. Ambrose Cathedral, Father John MacPherson officiated. Interment will take place at a later date. Donations in Harold’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
