After many years of illness we regret to announce the death of Joe MacInnis.
He passed away on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a final battle with cancer.
He was born May 19, 1945 in Middle Cape and was the son of Anne (MacNeil) of Sydney and the late John Roddie MacInnis.
He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima parish, Sydney River and was a 3rd degree member of KOC Council 9476.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Mary (Gillis) and his two daughters, Michele in Dartmouth and Laura in Portage. Also left to mourn his passing are his nine siblings and their families, David (Donna), Middle Cape, Nelson (Donna), Halifax, Edward (Joanne), Sydney River, Tommy (Hilda), Toronto, Billy (Elaine), Richmond Hill, Kevin (Donna), Ben Eoin and his sisters, Dianne Morrison, Hamilton, Judy, Oakville and Beverly White (Daren), Amherst. Also surviving are uncle, Benny, Towanda, Penn; many nieces and nephews, cousins and a special sister-in-law, Mary, Markham, Ont.
Besides his father, he was predeceased by his brother, George (2011) a sister in infancy and his father and mother-in-law, Angus & Cecilia Gillis.
Visitation for Mr. MacInnis will take place on Sunday, Oct. 7 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Big Pond with Rev. Joe Gillis officiating.
Memorial donations can be made to the C.B. Palliative Care Society.
