Edward Angus MacDonald passed away at 80 years of age on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at Newport Harbour Care Centre in Calgary, Alta., after a long illness. He is returning home, to Catalone, for his final resting place.
Edward was predeceased by his loving wife, Myrna (Morrison), whom he married on Nov. 30, 1956, after a whirlwind romance. He was also predeceased by his very close relatives, Mamie and Craig MacDonald of Mira Gut.
Edward was the son of the late Malcolm and Christy Ann MacDonald. He was a lifelong resident of Catalone and area, prior to his move, 10 years ago, to Calgary to be closer to his daughters and grandchildren.
Edward leaves behind his daughters, Mary (John) MacDonald, Donna (Ron) McMahon and Catherine Stevenson; as well as grandchildren, Elizabeth and Kathleen McMahon, Calgary, Alta. and Samantha and Derrik Stevenson, Ajax, Ont. Edward is also survived by sisters-in-law, Sheila MacDonald and Verda Brownlee (Brent); brothers-in-law, Donald Morrison and Buddy MacDonald (Leona); and nieces and nephews, Gordon, Scott, Bruce, Iris, Colleen, Bobby, Karen and Christina.
In his early years, Ed worked as a foreman for the Louisbourg Fish Plant and with the Department of Highways. He went on to become a licenced mechanic and later, sold cars, which were his passion. Later in life, he drove a school bus and eventually retired from the warehouse/purchasing department of the Cape Breton District School Board.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, Oct. 11 from 7-9 p.m. A service honoring Edward’s life will be held at MacMillan Memorial Church, Catalone, with Nancy Whitney-Latham, DLM officiating where he was an elder and life-long devoted member, on Friday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. Following the service, interment will take place in Loch End Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Edward may be made to the Diabetes Association or Loch End Cemetery.
