Date de naissance : 2 décembre 1927

Lieu de décès : Nanaimo, Colombie Britannique, Canada

Born in Cape Breton, N.S., one of the Campbells of Hay Cove, Fran MacKinnon was number six of the 16 strong and independent children of Jack and Margaret Campbell (Dwyer).
After completing nursing training at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Glace Bay, N.S., and after nursing forays throughout Nova Scotia and to Montreal and Kelowna, Fran and John MacKinnon were married in Halifax in 1955. They later moved West where Fran had further successes achieving her teaching degree at the Ontario College of Education and pursuing teaching in and around Aurora, Ont.
Here she discovered and embraced golf in her 40s and mastering the Aurora Highlands Golf Club, the Toronto Ladies Club and then, after a move to B.C. in 1989, the Nanaimo Golf Club, where she enjoyed a hole in one at age 72.
Fran took her diagnosis with carcinoid syndrome cancer in stride, however the last nine months have been difficult.
Fran was supported throughout by her husband, John, her daughters, Diane and Susan (Link) and families and her incredible array of friends new and old, and of course the Campbell Clan.
Many thanks to Dr. Schulson for his years as her GP, the staff at Nanaimo Senior Village and the incredible “Gogo” for all their care.
A mass followed by a reception will be held at Trinity Catholic Church at 6234 Spartan Rd., Nanaimo, B.C., on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Fran’s memory to the Nanaimo Hospice at www.nanaimohospice.com.
