Frank Van Meekeren - 69, of Lakeville, Kings County, passed away Monday, October 8, 2012 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Rinsumageest, The Netherlands, he was a son of the late Frederick Sr. and Jean (Van Hyum) Van Meekeren. He was an agricultural entrepreneur, fruit farmer and past president of the Nova Scotia Fruit Growers Association. He believed in supporting family, church and community and was liked by everyone. He was also one of the founders of the Kings County Christian School. He had an appreciation for classical music and opera, and enjoyed entertaining, cooking, food and travel. He is survived by three daughters, Elaine (Tony) Smith, Waverley; Sharon (Bruce) Rafuse, Carleton Place, Ontario; Carolyn (Eric) Vander Heide, Kentville; two sons, Stephen (Julie-Anna), Lakeville; Michael (Colette), Coldbrook; their mother, Gerrie Van Meekeren; two brothers, Clarence (Linda) and Fred Jr., both of Centreville; 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Alice Vandertuin and Henrietta Bekkering; a brother, Martin. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2012 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 11, 2012 in the Christian Reformed Church, Kentville, Pastor Bill Hogeboom officiating. A private family burial took place in the Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Hospice Foundation.
