It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Edmund Joseph MacKenzie on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Angus and Maria (Campbell) MacKenzie.
Edmund retired from Sydney Steel, open hearth department in 1993 after 33 years.
Edmund was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather, and is survived by his wife, the former Helen (Smith); three children, Carol (Randy) Chiasson, Georgetown, P.E.I., Graham (Beverly), Baddeck, Michael (Calley), Dartmouth; sister, Sr. Anne Marie CND, New Glasgow; six grandchildren, Daniel, Bryce, Adam, Camden, Rowan, Casey; step-granddaughters, Jamee and Ashley; and by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Colin and Katherine MacKenzie.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, East Bay, at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 with Fr. Frank Abbass officiating. A reception will follow at East Bay Fire Hall. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
