With sadness we announce the passing of Wilhelmina ‘Billie’ MacDonald, 99, on Oct. 9, 2012, at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Clarence, Annapolis County, she was the daughter of the late William and Lily Creelman.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon MacDonald as well as brother, Lieut. Gordon Ross Creelman, a member of the Canadian Army, who died overseas during the Second World War, as well as several first cousins.
She is survived by her nephew, David MacDonald (Shauna MacLean), Baddeck; niece, Emily MacDonald, Sydney; and cousin, Edwina Morrissey, Truro.
Billie was a member of the Order of Eastern Star achieving the office of Grand Matron. She spent several years as a teacher and then attended the Halifax School of Nursing. She worked at the old Victoria County Memorial Hospital from 1949-78 when she retired, having spent the last years as the Matron (hospital director) who was lovingly referred to as ‘Creelman’ by her staff.
She was an avid gardener who loved spending summers at her cottage in Advocate, N.S. She enjoyed quilting, reading and weaving during her retirement.
Visitation will take place at the Knox Presbyterian Church in Baddeck at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, with funeral to follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Brian MacLeod officiating.
Funeral is under the direction of MacAskill Funeral Home.
Donations made in memory of Wilhelmina can be made to the Victoria County Memorial Hospital or Canadian Cancer Society.
