WATKINS, Augustus “Freddie” – 77, of Wellington, Yarmouth Co., passed away October 16, 2012 at The Meadows Home for Special Care. Born August 23, 1935 in Pleasant Valley, he was a son of the late Chester and Erma (Sollows) Watkins. Freddie left Yarmouth at the age of 17, moving to Ontario and joined the Air Force where he spent one year. He then worked for General Motors before moving back home to Yarmouth in 1967. Freddie worked as a dairy farmer for 32 years as well as a school bus driver for 10 years. He then went on to being a beef farmer and woodlot owner/operator. He was also a member of many boards, some including: Yarmouth Regional Business, Credit Union and Federation of Agriculture. He will be fondly remembered for being an avid ox teamster and a very good sportsman. He loved his yellow lab, Sasha. He was a great father, wonderful husband and will be missed by wife of 51 years, Marilyn; daughters, Dana Lynn Watkins (Sam Wilson), Wellington; Sondra (Brian) Nickerson, Wellington; brother, Darrel (Marie) Watkins, Wellington; grandchildren, Jenna and Jordan; step-granddaughter, Maria; nephews, Kevin and Darren Watkins, both of Wellington; Derrick Watkins, Vancouver. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yarmouth. There was no visitation by family request. A memorial service was held Friday, October 19 at 2 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. A.D. “Bill” Newell officiated. A private family interment took place in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Family flowers only, please. Donations in Freddie’s memory may be made to Yarmouth Hospital Foundation or to Yarmouth SPCA.
