SURETTE, Joseph Arthur – 90, Tooker Street, Yarmouth, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2012 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born December 27, 1921 in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late George A. and Mary Rose (Surette) Surette. Arthur worked as a carpenter and a fisherman as well as at Cosmos Imperial Mills. He was a veteran of the second and Korean Wars, having served with the Royal Canadian Army in Germany, England, Belgium and France. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 61, Yarmouth. He adored his children and great grand children, and he loved playing cards. He is survived by his children, Kay (Leonard) Pothier, Frederick (Maryjane) Surette, Lawrence “Lollie” (Anne) Surette, Roseanne (Tom) Doucette, all of Yarmouth; Susie (Ken) Purdy, Rockville; Janet (Pat) Sproule, Overton; Tony (Sherry) Surette, and their son, Jared, Yarmouth; grandchildren, Crystal (Matthew) Watson, Pleasant Valley; Lennie (Michelle) Pothier, Little River Harbour; Rosalind (Bobby) Caldwell, New Minas; Tom Doucette, Yarmouth; Jennifer (George) Purdy, Plymouth; Trevor (Bernice) Surette, Hebron; Rhonda (Darren) Olsen, Sandford; Michelle (Jake) White, Chegoggin; Kim (Dean) Saulnier, Pinkney’s Point; Kelly (Shawn) Hanf, Brazil Lake; Melissa (Jamie) Robinson, Arcadia; Amanda (Joe) Muise, Tusket; 23 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Douglas (Cecilia) Surette, Leslie Surette, Katherine (Edward) Robicheau, all of Yarmouth; sisters, Bertha Surette, Quebec and Lennie Goodwin, Yarmouth. Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen Joyce (Quinn) Surette, and a sister, Julie Strugnell. Visitation took place from 7-9 Tuesday, with a Royal Canadian Legion Service at 7:30 p.m., followed by prayers all at 8 p.m., both at H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth, where the funeral was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 24, Father John MacPherson officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. It was requested that there be family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Yarmouth Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. The family wishes to thank Dr. Patrick Friel and Dr. Tom Muise, as well as the nursing staff on 3-East at the Yarmouth Hospital for the excellent care and compassion they showed Arthur and his family during his illness.
