John Edward Murphy

Murphy, John Edward, 91, Debert. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather on October 24, 2012, surrounded by his family at home. Born in Lameline, NF, on February 16, 1921, he was a son of the late Peter and Suzanne (Benteau) Murphy. He served in the Merchant Navy and then joined the army in 1943. He was employed with the Public Service at Camp Debert for 33-years. John enjoyed fishing, hunting, and loved telling stories to his many many friends.
John is survived by his wife of 66-years, the former Lillian Annie Hinchcliffe; brother Adrian Murphy, Step-brother Tommy Nordkap; daughters, Linda Eagles (Kelly), Nancy Morphet (Dewayne), Margie Nichols, Jessie Cornelius (Ken), Sandra Murphy (Drew); sons, Peter (Shelley), John Michael (Jan), Paul (Wendy); 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a twin brother Michael, brothers Placid, Eugene; sister Paulette; infant granddaughter Jill.
No service by John’s request. A celebration of John’s life will take place on Sunday from 2-4 pm in the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. A private family interment will take place at a later date in the Mainroad Cemetery, Debert. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro.
