CROWELL, Jim – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of our dear son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Jim passed away suddenly at his home on October 28, 2012. Born on July 15, 1966 in Yarmouth to Margaret (LeBlanc) Crowell and the late Edward Crowell, Jim was the youngest of seven children. Jim had been an employee of the Yarmouth Cotton Mill and then Nova Tech Braids for many years. He later moved to Ontario for a new job. He returned to Nova Scotia just over two years ago to be closer to his family, and at the time of his death, he was living and working in Halifax. Jim was a gifted handyman, a true “jack of all trades”. Even with no formal training, he was greatly skilled in all areas of plumbing, carpentry and electrical work. He took pride in his work, enjoyed helping others, always willing to lend a helping hand – that was Jim. A genuine people person, Jim lived his life in a carefree and fun-loving way. He had a great sense of humor and was comical by nature. Friendly and outgoing, he was always the life of the party. He had an innate ability to bring smiles and laughter to everyone, even if you happened to be the butt of his jokes. He loved to tease people. In his younger years, Jim was involved and excelled in sports such as softball, cross-country running and track and field. Jim was a fan of the Halifax Mooseheads and enjoyed spending most of his time with family and friends. He had a keen love of cooking and took delight in trying-out new recipes for his girls. First and foremost, Jim was a wonderful Dad. He was happiest when with his four girls. They brought out the best in him and he was so very proud of all their accomplishments. Less than two months ago, he was overjoyed to have earned the title of “Grampie”, when he welcomed the birth of his granddaughter into his life. Besides his mother, Jim is survived by daughters, Cara (Timothy Garden-Cole), of Yarmouth; Ashley, Courtney and Chelsea, all of Halifax; granddaughter, Madison, of Yarmouth. He is also survived by sisters, Ella, of Ontario; Joey, of Alberta; Theresa (Mark Horton) and Fran (Byron Boudreau), both of Yarmouth; brother, Eddie, of Ontario, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his father, he was predeceased by a sister, Gwen. Cremation has taken place. Visitation took place from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday at Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert St., Yarmouth. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Friday, November 2 at Zion United Baptist Church, Parade St., Yarmouth, with a reception to follow, Rev. Brian Wallace officiated. Interment took place in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Yarmouth. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of Jim may be made to the ALS Society of Nova Scotia.
