Paul “Kenneth” Long - 68, of Sunken Lake (Black River), Kings County, passed away on Monday, November 5th, 2012 in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax Infirmary Site. Born on November 8th, 1943 in Kentville, he was the son of the late Clifford and Ada (Taylor) Long. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Zelma (Vaughan) and the proud father of sons, Aaron (Amanda Hood) and Chesley "Chet". He was the proud Poppie of grandsons, Conrad (3) and Ivan (11 months). He is also survived by brothers, Phillip (Geneva), New Minas and Christopher (Sandra), Port Williams. Kenneth worked at Clifford Long and Sons saw mill in White Rock starting at age 14. He worked there his entire life, becoming co-owner with his brother Chris in 1989, retiring in 2008. He enjoyed going for drives, snowmobiling, weekly card games, darts, hunting and was a distinguished archer. He also judged the annual New Ross Power Saw competition for over 20 years and was instrumental in obtaining material, permits and monetary donations for the construction of the covered bridge over the Gaspereau Canal. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, November 7th, 2012 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 8th, 2012 Reverend Mark Shaw officiating. Interment took place in the Black River Cemetery. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Black River Community Association or the charity of one’s choice.
