NEW GLASGOW – James Gerow Stevens II, age 80 of Sanborne Street, New Glasgow, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 3rd, 2012 in the wonderful care of the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Jim was born in Halifax on July 13th, 1932 to the late James and Marjorie C. (Mollins) Stevens and was a resident of New Glasgow for most of the past 45 years.
Jim began his working career with the Canadian National Railway where he apprenticed to become an electrician. He later worked for London Life Insurance Company in Halifax. In 1968 he joined Canrep, (formerly Railway and Power Engineering Corporation Ltd), in New Glasgow, where he eventually became Maritimes Sales Manager until 1979. He retired from management of Canrep’s Materials Handling Division at their head office in Montreal in 1983 and returned to New Glasgow with Ruth to retire.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed working with his hands and building things including Ruth’s beloved gazebo “Habibi”.
He will be truly missed by his loving wife of 56 years the former Ruth Isaac; daughter Allyson (David) Wheadon, New Glasgow; son James Gerow III (Jamie) (Cindy) Stevens, New Glasgow; four grandchildren who were such a bright light in his life: Nicole Wheadon (James Cooley), Charlottetown, P.E.I; Darryl Wheadon, New Glasgow; Katie Stevens, New Glasgow and his namesake James Gerow Stevens IV, New Glasgow who was born on his grandfather’s 60th birthday; sisters: Nancy (Bob) Snarr, Kitchener, Ont.; Carol (late Keith) Wilson, Moncton; many nieces and nephews.
Jim was predeceased by sisters Betty and Peggy.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 10th, 2012 from Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. A reception will follow the service in the Sister Catherine Steele Centre. Burial will take place at a later date in the Robie Street Cemetery, Truro.
Donations in memory of Jim may be made to LORDA or the VON.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the H.W. Angus Funeral Home.
